Calvin was a faithful member of New Hope Seventh Day Adventist Church in Marietta. He was a retired owner/operator truck driver. Calvin was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, serving at Normandy Beach and the Battle of the Bulge, and received a Purple Heart. Calvin was a member of the Oddfellows, the American Legion, and the VFW. He enjoyed farming, mechanic work, welding, carpentry, and fishing.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathryn Capps; three brothers, Melvin Capps, Ed Capps, and Alonzo "Bo" Capps; five sisters, Cora Bell Martinez, Lorene Hicks, Laverne Powell, Kay Kelley, and Lucy Myers; and one grandson, David Capps.
Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Dwight and Dorothy Capps of Marietta and Jonathan Capps of Marietta; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Arthur B. Capps of Marietta and Morris and Patsy Capps of Pittsburg; one sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Glenn Bellamy of Naples, Texas; one grandson, Daniel C. Capps; numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 26, 2021 at Harrison Funeral Home in Naples. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, November 26, 2021 at New Hope Cemetery in Marietta with Pastor Ernesto Illingworth and James Fincher officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Hope Cemetery Association, c/o Judy Fincher, 120 CR 2578, Naples, TX 75568.
