SAVOY - James Edgar "Jim" Barger, 71, of Savoy died suddenly Thursday (Nov. 4, 2010) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Jim was born on May 13, 1939, in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Edgar G. and Hattie L. (Bosch) Barger. He married Maria Elizabeth Baas on July 28, 1979, and she survives.

He is also survived by his daughter, Stasi Lynn McMillan (Richard) of Indianapolis, Ind.; stepdaughters, Monique Crouch (Butch) and Yvonne Starr (John), both of Urbana; brother, Leon Robert Barger of Urbana; grandchildren, Cody McMillan of Indianapolis, Ind., Joe Barger, Daniel Barger and Sean Martin of Urbana, Nick Barger, world traveler, Cassandra Rabe of Peoria, Crystal Martin of Mahomet; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and also spent 20 years as a civil service worker at Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul. When he became ill, he was a part-time employee at Christie Clinic. Jim also spent many years working for Faith in Action.

In his spare time he was a talented mosaic artist, who gave his works of art to many. He loved working outside, but most of all, he loved family and friends, and enjoyed gatherings with them. He was affectionately known as PaPa and Opa by his grandchildren.

Jim was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Urbana.

There will be a funeral Mass at St. Patrick's Church on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 10 a.m. with a luncheon following. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be offered at www.renner-wikoffchapel.com.
