Virginia June Thornton Cody, 75, of Chattanooga, died on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Cody was born in Harriman, Tn., but had lived in Chattanooga for the past 50 years.

She was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by her parents, Edward S. and Wanda Thornton and two brothers, Robert and Lawrence Thornton.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen Darlene Castleberry, Powder Springs, Ga.; Mary Angela Smith, Garden Valley, Id.; three brothers, James C. Thornton, Lexington, N.C.; William E. Thornton, Cleveland, Tn.; Lanny Thornton, Johnson City, Tn.; sister, Dorothy Hamilton, Cleveland, Tn.; two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at City Church of Chattanooga with Rev. Ernie Reno officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
