James Clyde Thornton, age 82 of Summerville, SC formerly of Lexington passed away Monday at the Presbyterian Home in Summerville.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday at Jersey Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Michael Collier officiating. The family will greet friends at the cemetery, after the service.

James was born in Harriman, TN on November 10, 1930 to Edward S. Thornton and Wanda Creekmore Thornton. He was a member of Jersey Baptist Church and a retired employee of Magic Chef Corp. He enjoyed his family, freshwater fishing, traveling and the mountains of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn Patton Thornton on Dec. 29, 2009; sister, Virginia Cody and brothers, Robert and Lawrence Thornton.

He is survived by his daughter, Janice "Jan" Kaye Thornton (Jim) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; sons, Ricky L. "Butch" Thornton (Judy) of Summerville, SC and James S. "Steve" Thornton of Linwood; grandchildren, Katherine, Emma and Jacob; sisters, Dorothy Hamilton of Cleveland, TN; brothers, William Thornton of Cleveland, TN and Lanny Thornton of South Carolina.
