Born in Scotland in 1808 to Thomas Hope and Helen Paterson.

Married William Oliver, in Scotland, in approx 1828.

Emigrated from Scotland by ship, via the Port of NY, with her husband and their children born in Scotland. They traveled by oxcart to Mishawaka, Indiana to settle where other members of the Oliver family were already living. George Oliver, the father of James Oliver, also buried in this cemetery, was the uncle of Jane Hope's husband, William Oliver. All were immigrants from Scotland.

The Olivers were considered pioneer settlers, according to Jane's obit in the Mishawaka Enterprise. They joined the Presbyterian Church in 1839.

1st husband William Oliver died in 1841, in Mishawaka, Indiana. Their children born in Scotland were: John, Thomas, Helen, Elizabeth (1). Elizabeth (1), born in Scotland, died in 1840. Elizabeth (2) was born 1841 in Mishawaka, and married John Melvin.

In 1842, Jane married 2nd husband, John Rogers. Their children were: Jane and William.

John Rogers was born in Ireland and died in Missouri in 1856, in the St Louis Hospital.

The 1850 census shows Jane, John and their family living in Mishawaka, St Joseph, Indiana. John is an iron worker.

In the 1860 census, Jane, 3 Oliver children and her 2 Rogers children are living without husband John in Westport, Jackson, Missouri. A record of a St Louis hospital has John Rogers dying in 1856 and buried in City Hospital.

After her second husband passed away, Jane Hope Oliver Rogers lived first with a daughter and later, with her oldest son. By the 1870 census, Jane and oldest son John Oliver, are living in Penn Township, St Joseph's County, Indiana. When she passed away at his home in Bristol, Indiana, she was taken home to the Presbyterian Church in Mishawaka for her funeral and burial.

Despite a search by our family members in years past, and recently, by a member of the local Historical Society, a headstone has not yet been found for Jane or her first husband.
