Amos Crawford, 85- year-old retired farmer, will be buried today in a solid oak coffin which he built for himself almost three years ago.
Mr. Crawford died about 4 o'clock Tuesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Minnie Shehan, following an illness of less than two days.
He was a native of North Carolina and had lived in Cherokee County the past 27 years. He was a member of the Mount Paran Baptist church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Draytonville Baptist Church by the Rev. Carl Martin. Interment will be in the Draytonville cemetery with the Craft Funeral Home morticians in charge.
Mr. Crawford is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Shehan; three sons, John, Raleigh, and Thomas Crawford of Gaffney; a sister, Miss Martha Crawford, of Canton, N.C.; 30 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Crawford turned his coffin over to the Craft Funeral Home about two years ago to keep for him until needed. The mortuary sent the box to a manufacturing plant to have it lined and finished.
