Visitation will be 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 24 at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 71st and Metcalf, Overland Park, KS, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and/or Catholic Charities.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William B. McCarthy, and by her parents, Anthony and Mary Agnes Dinges.
Leona was born in Belleville, IL on September 3, 1932.
She moved to Kansas City at age 6, and graduated from Lillis High School in 1950. She worked for BMA and later in life she was a realtor. She enjoyed tennis and her favorite hobby was duplicate bridge.
Leona is survived by two children: son, Bill McCarthy and wife, Cathy, and daughter, Marsha Theis; by eight grandchildren: Brigid, Therese, Erin, John, Aileen, Liam, Joel and Paul; and by a great grandchild: Dominic. She is also survived by two brothers, Anthony and Frank Dinges, and by four sisters: Patricia Brady, Marie Ballew, Therese Martin, and Esther White.
