Mary Esther White, 86, Overland Park, KS, passed away Monday, August 14, 2017. Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m., Rosary will be prayed at 11 a.m. followed by the Mass Friday, Aug. 18, at Queen of the Holy Rosary, 71st and Metcalf Ave in Overland Park. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday, at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, KS. Esther was born July 8, 1931, in Greenville, IL. She was the sixth of seven children to Tony and Mary Dinges. At a young age, her family moved to Kansas City for job opportunities. Esther graduated from Redemptorist grade school and Central High School where she received an art award, which later led to a job at Hallmark. In 1950, she met Robert "Bob" White and they were married on Jan. 13, 1951. From the beginning, Esther worked with the family, helping to run the White Haven Motor Lodge. She was an active member of Queen of the Holy Rosary Parish, as the first woman on the parish council, one of the creators of funeral dinners, and singer in the funeral choir. Esther had great devotion to the blessed Mother and she was in the Legion of Mary for over 40 years. She and Bob were part of the founding group for the Catholic Charities Snow Ball, and received the Angels Among Us award for Catholic Education Foundation. Bob and Esther sponsored the construction for a home for girls with special needs in Carola India, that continues to this day. Esther was also a Lady in the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre. She loved to entertain and prepared amazing meals. Esther was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her son, Mark. She is survived by daughter Sheila (Michael) Berry, son Rob (Lisa) White, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and dear friend Bill Scott. Esther was a devoted Catholic and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was generous, gracious, and beautiful both inside and out. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Queen of the Holy Rosary, Catholic Charities, 9806 West 87th St., Overland Park, KS 66212 or the Catholic Education Foundation, 12615 Parallel Pkwy, Kansas City, KS 66109.
