PASSAGE. Gregory Carl Lassen, 66, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was born on March 2, 1948, in Plainfield, New Jersey, to Carl Eric Lassen and Myrtle Thorson Lassen. He was the oldest and by far the most exciting of his two brothers and sisters. As a child, if anyone was to step in on a dare to see if being pinched by a crab "really did hurt", or tell the truth in spite of it meaning big trouble, or at thirteen years of age dive through a hole in a frozen lake to save the life–at great risk of his own– of his younger brother, it was Greg. Generous to a fault, there are many today who wear the shirts that came off of Greg's back.
He attended and graduated from Provo High School and served in the U.S. Air Force. He learned some hard lessons in his young life, and became a better man for it. He worked for and retired from Geneva Steel, ran a commercial cleaning business, and was a truck driver until declining health forced him from his cab. He loved his family, his friends, his dogs, and ice cream. He may have hung on just a little bit longer because he knew we didn't want him to go, and because he so desperately wanted not to leave.
He had a tender heart, and it would have been a heartbreaking thing for him to know that he had wronged or ever disappointed anyone.
He loved his wife, Kathy, adored their three daughters, Kerry (Shawn), Karlyn, and Keely, and worshipped his four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. We'll miss you Dad!
He is also survived by his brothers, Gary and Glen, and sisters, April and Leslie.
There will be a celebration of Greg's life on Sunday, November 23rd at Joffee's Coffee (2121 McClelland St.(1040 E.) #103, S.L.C., Utah from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Please join us and share your favorite memories.
