Lillian G. Simmons, wife of Thomas Simmons, passed away at her home in Cohansey Monday, March 24, at the age of 58. She was operated on at Bridgeton Hospital, November 24 for a very serious malignant growth from which she never regained health. However, she was up and about her room for a while, but for the last six weeks was confined to her bed.

She was of a loving and cheerful disposition always willing to help everyone. She was an aunt to all the children of her neighborhood as well as to several grownups.

The deceased was a member of the Friesburg Lutheran Church, Sunday-school, Ladies' Aid, W.C.T.U. and the Ever-Ready Bible Class. She was also a member of the Ladies' Bible Class of the Deerfield Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Simmons was born at Cohansey and has resided there all her life. She was the daughter of the late Daniel D. and Anna E. Hitchner and was one of five children, the family being well known and substantial citizens. Her mother passed away just five months ago at the age of 82. Beside her husband, the deceased leaves two children, Earl, married and living on the home farm and Anna, at home. She is also survived by two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Mabel Harvey, of Philadelphia; Mrs. Bessie Ackley, of Deerfield; James Hitchner, of Salem, and Albert Hitchner, of Cohansey. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon with interment in Overlook Cemetery. Rev. Edward Brame and Rev. A.K. Locker officiated. She will be greatly missed by everyone. The floral tokens were many and beautiful.
