GALENA, Kan. — Violet Mae (Rice) Anderson went to be with her Lord and Savior after a short illness at 3:04 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at St. John's Hospital, Joplin, Mo., with her family surrounding her. She was 84 years old, one day from her 85th birthday. Violet was born in Galena on Jan. 28, 1923, to Lewis Alfred Rice and Margaret (Martin) Rice. Violet married Donald J. Anderson on Oct. 18, 1941, in Galena. They enjoyed 66 wonderful years of married life. Violet and Don served as Assemblies of God ministers since 1960. They pastored 11 churches and were currently associate pastors at the Assembly of God, Duenweg, Mo. Violet was an accomplished artist with "Paintings by Violet"; gospel singer and Children's Church worker. Above all, Violet was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Violet is survived by her husband, Don, of the home; one daughter, LaDonna (Dawn) Anderson–Kuhler and her husband, David, of Carl Junction, Mo.; one son, Kevin Anderson, of Duenweg; four grandchildren, Darrin Campbell and wife, Mary, of Anderson, Mo., Jace Kuhler, of Joplin, and Kevin and Miranda Anderson, of the state of Washington; one adopted granddaughter, Tracy Good, of Webb City, Mo.; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many other family and friends who will greatly miss her. Violet was preceded in death by her mother and father; her sisters, Mavis, Norma and Genevieve; and brother, Lewis. Funeral services will be held at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 10:30 a.m. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena.
