Mary Blackburn Wood, a Manzanita resident since 1977, died March 9 at Seaside General Hospital. She was 71 years old.

Born in Evanston, Illinois on August 4, 1917, Mrs. Wood's parents were George Blackburn and May Walkey.

Before retiring to Seaside 11 years ago, Mrs. Wood worked for 14 years as a secretary at the corporate headquarters of the Jewel Tea Company in Barrington, Illinois.

She married William Wood on March 25, 1941.

Mrs. Wood is survived by four daughters, Patricia Wood, of Seaside, Mary Suzy Wood, of Portland, Betty Wood, of Iowa City and Margie Wood, of Chicago; her brothers, James Blackburn, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Robert Blackburn, of Sacramento, California and Jerry Blackburn of Florida; her sisters, Margaret Nelson, of Evanston, Illinois, and Catherine Hanhart, of Columbus, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be no funeral services.
