Herbert was born on September 28, 1925, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Horace and Dorothy (Hillmer) Maynard.
After high school, Herbert served during WWII in the United States Air Force.
On August 8, 1958, Herbert was united in marriage to Esther Caballero. Esther passed away November 19, 2013, after 55 years of marriage.
He was an inspector for the State of Iowa Department of Agriculture
a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and later St. Patrick Catholic Church. Herbert enjoyed Catholic media and newsletters
eating his bacon and eggs every morning. Herbert deeply appreciated his neighbors, loved his cats, and dearly missed his wife, Esther.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Esther; and siblings, Rick Maynard, Jean Fairhurst, and Alice Winburn.
Herbert's family would like to extend their gratitude to his caregivers, Sue and Doreen as well at the staff at Hospice House for their exceptional care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Hospice House of Mercy or St. Patrick Catholic Church.
