Beverly Ann Grimes passed away Jan. 22 from a sudden illness after overcoming a series of medical challenges in 2007. She was surrounded by her loving family when she went to live with the Lord.
Beverly, the seventh of seven girls, was born in Lebanon to William and Anna Whitaker. She attended various schools, culminating in graduation from Redmond High School in 1954.
Beverly married Jim Workman on July 3, 1959. In December 1964, Jim was killed in a plane crash. She continued to raise her family while working as a dental assistant.
Marrying Gerry Grimes on June 8, 1968, she worked with him in various pastoral assignments in Oregon, California, Nevada and Colorado, returning to Salem in 1984.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Gerry Grimes; daughters Mary Stella, Linda and husband Mike Mitchell, Rica and husband David Brant, and Valerie and husband Kevin Scharff; sisters Frances Ziegler, Elma Hennessey and Doris Graupensperger, all of Albany; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be Monday at Christian Center of Salem, 1845 45th Ave. N.E., in Salem. A graveside service will commence at 2:30 p.m. Monday at City View Cemetery in Salem.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christian Center Missions Program.
