ENGLEWOOD, Fla. — Harlan L. "Hal" Lichty passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 17, 2022, in Englewood, Fla., where he spent his retirement years with family nearby. He was 88 years old.

He was born in Warren, Ohio, where he enjoyed a 30-plus year career in light bulb manufacturing at General Electric Ohio Lamp Plant. His co-workers and family affectionately began referring to him as "Red" during his career and this became so popular, many only knew him as "Red." He also proudly served his country in the United States Army as a tank commander in the Korean War.

Hal's enjoyable retirement years included fishing and golfing. He was very active in his Homeowner's Association, where he made many friends in his community of South Gulf Cove. He spent much of his time building flag poles for his neighbors to honor his commitment to his service years and his country. He was lovingly assigned another nickname by this group of friends, "The Mayor."

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Nancy H. Lichty; his daughter, Melissa Sue Lichty Kilmer; and his sister, Janice Rae Lichty Sapp. Hal was blessed with four granddaughters; one grandson; three great-granddaughters; and one great-great-granddaughter.

His daughter, Rhonda Lynn Lichty Davis, preceded him in death.

A Celebration of Red's Life Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2022, at The Chapel of Peace, Gulf Pines Memorial Park, 2401 Englewood Road, Englewood, FL 34223.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate, in honor of Red's love of his country, fellow veterans and active servicemen and women.
