John's first wife was named Anna Freeman. They married on 6 October 1879 in Kosciusko County, Indiana. But Anna died in 1900. On 3 April 1904 John married the widow Matilda Frances Marshall in Searcy, White County, Arkansas, where John and Anna had been living in 1900. Matilda, or Frances in some records, had a son named Roy Rogers Thornton who was reported in their household in 1910. Records to Roy Thornton help confirm this marriage.
Matilda moved in about 1918 after a divorce from John, probably in 1917. No divorce record has been found, but John remarried in Little Rock in April 1918, and all subsequent records for Matilda are in Seattle, Washington. Matilda's obituary says she moved to Seattle, Washington, 36 years before, or about 1917-18.
Records for her son, including Roy's marriage record in Seattle, confirm this is the same family. The marriage record reports Roy's birthplace as Hastings, Nebraska, matching Roy's record in John Jackson's household in the 1910 census. John also remarried in Little Rock in April 1918. Matilda continued to go by her Jackson name.
John married another widow named Margaret Mansfield in Little Rock on 6 April 1918. Margaret was a widowed resident in Pratt, Pratt County, Kansas. Their ceremony was performed by Frank Martin, Justice of the Peace. No death or burial information has been found for Margaret Mansfield Jackson.
Margaret's maiden name was Daughenbaugh. Her death certificate says she was born in Ohio. Her name on the death certificate is spelled Marguerite. Marguerite died on 1 March 1926. She is also buried in Roselawn Cemetery.
We have not found a subsequent marriage record, but the name of his wife reported on his death certificate was Lelia Jackson. No death or burial has been found for Lelia/Lela either. John's death certificate says he had been a resident of Little Rock for 28 years, meaning he moved there in about 1914.
His death certificate reported he was buried in "Roselawn Park."
