Sammy Jay Boyd, age 72 of Leon, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2022, in Lubbock, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2022, at Restland Cemetery in Olney, Texas with Scotte Clark, minister of Hamilton Street Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
Sammy was born on June 11, 1950 in Clovis, New Mexico to the late Oscar J. Boyd and Nannie Beatrice (Goldsmith) Boyd. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he worked as a welder for Santa Fe Railroad for 25 years. He didn't want to sit idle after his retirement, so he drove a pilot car and traveled all over the United States. Sammy made knives earlier in his life and was known as a very independent man. He loved fishing, reading, cooking and watching Anime. He also loved to sing old country and western and southern gospel songs. He was a very likeable person and was always willing to help someone in need.
Sammy is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Emily Boyd of Austin, Texas; two daughters: Karen Spence and Samantha Boyd both of Lubbock, Texas; seven grandchildren: Brad, Leon, Joshua, Annie, Chandler, Aaron and Alec; three great-grandchildren: Oliver, Clancy and Jay; one brother, Meredyth Boyd and one sister, Patricia Argyle.
