Born to his parents, Hugh D. McConaughey and Barbara (Tim) McConaughey, in Morgan City, Louisiana, Hugh (Mac) McConaughey was raised in New Orleans, Louisiana where he played football at Jesuit High School and continued on a football scholarship at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX, prior to joining the United States Marine Corps. Served his country and fought for our freedom in two tours of the Korean War. While on leave from the Marine Corps, he met the love of his life, Patricia Raye Jones, in New Orleans. They were married on December 31, 1958 in Winterhaven, California and remained together until his passing. Blessed with three beautiful daughters, Karen L McConaughey, Robin L McConaughey and Julie McConaughey Bye. Continued his government service, retiring from the United States Postal Service. Became the family chef and continued to enjoy his passions which included music, art and training his Irish Setters. Always a devout Tulane Green Wave fan and loved his city, which he called home. Relocated to Katy Texas in 2007 to be near family and joined New Hope Presbyterian Church. Survived by his wife, daughters, son in law, Brian Bye, grandson, James McConaughey, step-grandson, Darren Bye, great-grandchildren, Cole and Marshall McConaughey, baby sister, Kathryn McConaughey Hunt, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Predeceased by his parents, brother, Jim McConaughey and sister, Barbara (Fran) McConaughey Walker. A memorial service will be held at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 1350 N. Mason Road, Katy, Texas, on Saturday July 8, 2017, at 1 pm.
