Barbara Frances "Fran" McConaughey Walker passed away surrounded by her family on March 3, 2013, after a short illness. Fran was born in Jackson, MS on November 7, 1929, to Hugh and Barbara McConaughey. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Walker, and her twin brother, Jim McConaughey. Fran leaves behind her children, Jim, Steve and Barbara Walker Hardin, as well as daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Walker, and son-in-law, James Hardin. She also leaves behind her brother, Hugh McConaughey, and his wife, Patricia, her sister, Kathryn Hunt and her husband, John, and sister-in-law, Kay McConaughey. She also leaves her precious grandchildren whom she dearly loved, Josh, Jacob, Rachael, Lindsey, and Tyler. She was blessed to have many nieces, nephews, and dear friends whom she loved. Fran was a wonderful woman, wife, and mother. She was loved by all and will be missed by everyone. We celebrate her life and know she is in heaven today with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Fran was such a giving person who had a servant's heart. She was very active in her church, sang in the choir, volunteered as an usher at the Alley Theatre, attended Bible studies, and was sure to make her grandchildren's events. In fact, she would say, that one of her biggest blessings were her grandchildren. She found great pleasure spending time with each of them. If any of her children needed help, felt sick, wanted to talk, she was right there for them. Fran considered herself blessed, but those around her considered themselves blessed for her spirit, kindness, smile, and joy. She loved Jesus with all her heart and we rejoice in knowing that it is not goodbye, but see you again in a little while.A bible verse that she handwrote and placed on her refrigerator was from Isaiah 40: 31. "but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." This is perfect because even through her illness, she relied on Jesus for strength and it was evident that her faith was built on the rock for it never faltered.
