MRS. MURLIE JUNE BUTLER BENNETT, age 94, of Eastman, GA, died Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Country Manor Estates Personal Care Home in Macon, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Saturday, July 23, at Big Sandy Baptist Church in Irwinton, GA, with Reverend Mike Kitchens and Reverend Tracey Daniels officiating, with interment in Big Sandy Baptist Church Cemetery.

Murlie was born in Nickelsville, GA in May of 1928. She was a 1945 graduate of Toomsboro High School, received her bachelor's degree in education from Georgia College in Milledgeville, and later received her master's degree in education from Mercer University in Macon. She taught school in McIntyre and later in Irwinton before marrying and moving to Eastman in 1956. After moving to Eastman, she taught 6th grade at Eastman Elementary and later retired after an illustrious 32-year career in education. She was a member of Eastman First Baptist Church, a dedicated wife, and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Murlie was an avid U.S. and world traveler with her friends and family for many years. She loved family gatherings and enjoyed cooking and shopping. She was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Warren Butler and Joseph Albert Butler, widow of James Riley Bennett, and was preceded in death by her Son, James Neil Bennett, and 5 Siblings, Sylvia Clements, Harold Butler, L.F. Horne, Evelyn Bartell, and Hazel LeMunyan.

She is survived by her Daughter – June Bennett Riggin (Robert) of Warner Robins; 4 Grandchildren – Hannah Bennett Carter (Cory) of Jacksonville, FL, Victoria Riggin Wilson (Quinton) of Lakewood, WA, Rick Riggin, and Rob Riggin, both of Warner Robins, GA; 6 Great-Grandchildren – Emma Riggin, Marin Carter, Hadley Riggin, Jace Wilson, Daniel Wilson, and Ellie Carter; Brother – Anthony Butler (Sandra) of Irwinton, GA; Sister – Rava Pierce of Irwinton, GA; Several Nieces and Nephews.

The family may be contacted at the residence of Anthony and Sandra Butler, 10780 Hwy. 112, Irwinton, GA 31042, and will receive friends in Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home from 6:00PM-8:00PM Friday, July 22. In addition to flowers, the family request contributions to, Big Sandy Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 12443 GA Highway 112., Irwinton, GA 31042, the Crohn's Association, www.crohnscolitisfoundation.org, or the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org/.
