Per obit. found in "The Hamilton Herald-Record," dated July 17 1931. John J. Gregory, formerly of Hamilton, who had been living near Purvis, died at the home of "Grandmother" Ogle, mother of Mrs. Gregory, in the Carlton community on July 10 at 11:00 o'clock in the morning. Mr. Gregory, who was fifty years and six months of age, had been ill only a few days when death came very unexpectedly. He had injured his hand and blood poisoning set up, bringing his life very suddenly to an earthly end. Mr. Gregory was liked and respected by all who knew him, while he lived in Hamilton. He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Dock Smith of Dublin Texas: four grand-children; his mother, Mrs J.J. Gregory, Sr.; two brothers and two sisters, I.A. Gregory, Hamilton; Ernest Gregory, Nashville, Tennessee; Mrs. Nath Massingill, Hamilton, and Mrs. Calvin Morris, Hico. Funeral services, conducted by Eld. Gilbert Dalton, were held in the Baptist church at Carlton Saturday morning, and burial followed in the Carlton Cemetary. Many relatives and friends were present to pay a tribute of respect to the good man who had passed on out of their company into that of the angels around the throne of God, the Father. Beautiful flowers were heaped on the mound that covers the mortal body of John J. Gregory. Pallbearers were Messra McPherson, Barnett, Jones, Buchanan and Smith.
