Leona was committed to the Indianapolis Hospital for the Insane in the late 1890s. In Sept. 1910, she was transferred to the new care facility at Madison, Indiana, where she spent the remainder of her life.

Miss Leona Gant, 95, died Monday night at Madison State hospital, where she had been a patient nearly 50 years. She was born Feb. 17, 1866, in Bartholomew county to Cader and Mary J. Lawhead Gant, who preceded her in death. A sister, Mrs. Laura Gant Davis, also is deceased. Miss Gant was a member of Elizabethtown Methodist church and has no immediate survivors.
Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Thursday morning at Hathaway funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Harold Walker. Burial will be made at New Harmony cemetery. The casket will be open after noon Wednesday at the funeral home.
