Mary was the daughter of John and Massey Lawhead. In 1850, she was residing in Jefferson Co., Indiana, with her mother and three brothers, David, George, and Franklin Lawhead.

Mrs. Mary J. Gant, former resident of this county, died Tuesday afternoon at her home in Lawrence, Ind., at the age of 89 years. He death was due to infirmities of old age. The body will be brought to this, city and funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Section church in Sandcreek township. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Mrs. Gant was the widow of Cader Gant, for many years a grain dealer at Elizabethtown, and the family was well known in that vicinity. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Lawhead of this city, and spent her early life here. Thirty-two years ago, the family moved to Lawrence where Mr. Gant passed away several years ago.

Mrs. Gant was a lifelong member of the Methodist church. She was the mother of two children, Mrs. Willis Davis, who died at Rennselaer, Ind., some time ago, and surviving is a daughter, Miss Leona Gant, at home. She was also an aunt of W. R. Gant, south of the city.
