William Bennett is the son of Alexander Bennett and Mary (LNU), and grandson of John Bennett (161740161), and possibly 1st wife Mary Newberry, sister to John's 2nd wife Susannah Newbery (161740105).

William was married firstly to Sarah Barngrover on 20 Apr 1842, and 2ndly on 23 Apr 1853, Lefrances Walden "Nancy" Henning, the widow of Samuel C Foor.

9. Clifford Quincy Bennett b. 4 Sep 1869 d. poss. 7 Oct 1934 in CA, m. poss. Carrie Mae Walker

Note: Laura LeFrances Leon Foor (alias Bennett) is the step-daughter of William Bennett.

Our family history states William did not serve in the Civil War but received $70.00 for a horse that was taken by Rebel forces during Mogan's raid. They also burned two bridges over East and North forks of White Oak Creek, which is the area where William's grandfather, John Bennett, settled. However, I found that William Bennett of Butler County did register for the Civil War draft at age 41 with the profession of "Nursery Man," which meant that he cultivated plants. Our WIlliam Bennett was not chosen for the draft.

William was raised as a farmer and worked in agriculture between 1820-1880. Sometime between 1880-1892, William was a tobacco factory worker, most likely at the P. J. Sorg Branch of the American Tobacco Company in Middletown, Ohio.

In 1881 William's 2nd wife died, and he became the administrator of her estate.

On the 10th of February 1892, William Bennett, age 70, a tobacco factory worker, was stricken with paralysis while starting a fire at home on Williams Street where he lived for six years and was formerly of Brown County. His obituary noted he was well and favorably known and left a large circle of friends. It was stated William was a kind father and devoted husband.

William and his 2nd wife, Nancy, are interred at New Harmony, Brown County, Ohio.
