Lila "Mike"
(Somppi) Hine

A celebration of life for Lila "Mike" (Somppi) Hine, 84, of Leroy Township, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Ave., Painesville.

Mrs. Hine died Nov. 19, 2005, after a struggle with lung cancer.

Mrs. Hine was born Aug. 11, 1921, to Fred and Sanna (Aho) Somppi of Concord Township.

She graduated from Harvey High School in 1939 and worked at the Crooked Corners Restaurant (Route 84 & Liberty Street) in Painesville during World War II. On May 28, 1947, she married Felix "Farmer" Doran Hine Jr. and honeymooned at the Indianapolis 500 Speedway. Felix and Lila set up their homestead in Leroy Township to raise their family. Lila was active in the local PTO, Leroy Youth Club and Lake County 4-H Clubs. She loved raising animals, jigsaw puzzles, slightly off-color jokes, and weiners and beans on Saturday nights. She enjoyed lively conversations and crocheted beautiful baby blankets. She was a member of First Church Congregational of Painesville and the Eastern Stars. Lila enjoyed spending time at the family cottage on the Trent River in Campbellford, Ontario, Canada. She especially enjoyed volunteering at the polls on election day and the Friday night fish fries with her friends. Her family takes great comfort in the knowledge that she lived a wonderful life. They would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the caregivers and doctors at LakeEast Hospital and Altercare of Mentor for all their efforts and comforts. The family would also like to thank Sandy Rasch for her kindness and support in being there for Lila.

Mrs. Hine retired from Bank One in Painesville.

Survivors are her husband, Felix; children, Virginia (Richard) Matthews of Leroy
Township, Barbara HIne of Scottsdale, Ariz. and John (Erin) Hine of Ramona, Calif.;

(Suzanne) Zak of Mentor, Tina (Ron) Kohler of Euclid, Anne Varley of Scottsdale, Ariz.,
Sam Hine of Ramona, Calif.; great-grandchild, E. J. Rising of Geneva; and many nieces and
nephews.

Radcliffe, Ellen Pomeroy and Hilda Somppi; and grandchildren, Thomas Varley and Victoria
Hine, are also deceased.
