Please let me share with you a little about my brother. The obit does not do him justice. He loved his friends and family and talked about those he loved frequently. He loved the 70's /80's Classics and wore many band shirts . It was rare to see him wear a shirt that wasn't a T-shirt or hoodie. He loved our sister Debra "Debbie's" lasagna. He would tear up my chicken and dumplings. He would pinch my daughter, Mandy 's nose when she was little and make a big hickie on the end of her nose. He gave Travis the nickname "Meathead". He would comment frequently on FB posts that my daughters, Mandy and Gina, would post of themselves and their family, and tell them how beautiful they are, or how proud he was. He was an amateur drummer and guitarist. Although he would think it didn't sound good enough. Let me tell you he was awesome!! Loved his sweets. He did this silly dance that he named, "The Potato Digger".
If there was a pond or lake around, he threw in a line. He loved to go camping/fishing in our home state of WV. He was so excited one year, when he was at the KOA in Harpersferry and ran into our nephew Joseph Mark Jr. Shatrowsky .He absolutely LOVED to fish. We never ended a conversation without saying, "I love you." He anguished over the loss of our brother in 1982. He carried that pain over the years, and got emotional at the mention of his name. He loved with all of his heart, even if that love wasn't returned. He would walk for miles just to meet up with friends. Get this, his nick name was "Pee Wee", until he was about 10 years old. He once stuck some kind of berry up his nose when he was about 4 yo. Luckily he was finally able to blow it out of his nostril like a rocket. LOL
He cut the tip of his finger off in a bike chain. Had to do the whole skin graph and everything. I gave him the nickname "Eggbert", because his head was shaped like an egg until he was about 12. I called him Bert to this day. He knew it was with love. One of my last texts was, " Hey egg head. Call me when you can." He once fell from a 2 story balcony after trying to scale the outside wall to get in to feed a pet goat! You can't make this stuff up. LOL. He recovered but suffered from memory issues after. I can't tell you how many times he would say the words, "cool!" Or ,"Yeah maaan!", when trying to express his excitement. He would mention his friends that passed away and say, Man, I miss so and so. He always called me and Debbie, "Sis". He loved his brothers Tony and Timothy, and would talk about childhood memories of them. I never EVER knew him to start a fight with anyone. He has two daughters, Stacy and Ashley. He has 2 grand daughters and one grandson. He also has a child in heaven with him now. He never felt like he measured up as a dad. That's because he never had a good example, or guidance on how to become one . Even still he loved them and they love him. He loved his ex wife Dawn Funkhouser until his last day and always kept in contact with each other. He remained friends with his former fiance Tammy Stanley ,years after they separated until now. At the time of his passing, he was living with his girlfriend,
Janet. They worked together and lived together. We are all trying to cope with the loss. Life cheated him but he pressed on. He would be unhappy with certain situations but would still say, "I'm ok Sis. Don't worry about me." THIS right here, THIS is the Paul Ballenger that I know and grew up with. He was my precious brother.
