US Frontiersman. Known as a Ohio and Midwest hunter-explorer, he served as a scout during Lord Dunmore's War in 1774. By 1775, he moved to Boonesborough, Kentucky and for the next few years, worked as a scout for the settlement, often coming in contact with the local Indians and at one point saved the life of Daniel Boone. During the American Revolution, he participated in a number of military engagements against the British and Indians. In 1778, he joined George Rogers Clark on a successful expedition into the Illinois Country, to attack British outposts as well as Indian settlements. That same year he accompanied Daniel Boone in an attack on the Shawnee Indians' settlement of Chillicothe near Oldtown, Ohio and returned to service under George Rogers Clark as a scout in 1779. He settled near Maysville, Kentucky in 1794 and served in the militia under General Anthony Wayne and fought at the Battle of Fallen Timbers. In 1798, he moved to Ohio, became a Brigadier General in the Ohio Militia in 1805 and participated in the Battle of the Thames, Canada, during the War of 1812.
