John Buford Fontenot, 90, of Westlake passed away at 8:17 AM on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 in his daughter's residence in Lake Charles.

Mr. Fontenot was born on July 1, 1931 in Oberlin until moving to Lake Charles during his childhood. He moved to Westlake in 1958 where he currently resided. He served the country as a Naval Reserve. Mr. Fontenot was a painter by trade for construction and commercial properties. He was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church.

He took great pleasure in his flower beds and vegetable gardens but he most of all enjoyed spending time with his family.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Tyrone Guy Fontenot of Deridder, Ronald Curtis Fontenot (Tammy) of Sulphur, and Ramona Morris (Jim) of Lake Charles; ten grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Grace D. Fontenot; a son, Brady Bryant Fontenot; his parents, Edison Fontenot, Sr. and Minnie Forrestier; a brother, Edison Fontenot, Jr.; and sisters, Priscilla Manuel and Emma Lois Youn.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 25, 2022 in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel. Deacon Fred Reed will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until the start of the service with a rosary being recited at 12:30 PM.
