A lifelong resident of the Buffalo area, he was a graduate of Lackawanna High School and a longtime Lackawanna police officer.
After his retirement from the police force in 1981, Abad worked in security for the Lackawanna Municipal Housing Authority and the Lackawanna School District.
He served in the Marines during World War II and was a longtime member of the Police Benevolent Association; the Lackawanna Police Pistol Team; and Matthew Glab Post 1477, American Legion.
Mr. Abad enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his sons and grandson Anthony, whom he affectionately called "Buddy Buddy." He also loved basking in the sun during trips to Aruba with his wife.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, the former Trudy Dziedzina; two daughters, Jacqueline Burke of Hamburg and Judith Georgevich of Matthews, N.C.; two sons, Lewis J. of Lackawanna and Mark of North Collins; two brothers, Anthony and Manuel Jr., both of Lackawanna; and eight grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Victory Basilica, South Park Avenue and Ridge Road, Lackawanna. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lackawanna.
