William Beverly, 80, former owner of Warsaw Pharmacy

A prominent business and community leader in Warsaw has died.

William G. Beverly, former long-time owner of the Warsaw Pharmacy, past president of the Farmers State Bank and a former Warsaw City Council member, died Sunday at Gallatin County Health Care Center. He was 80.

Mr. Beverly was owner of Warsaw Pharmacy from 1952-1995, then worked there part-time until recently. He was a trustee of Warsaw Christian Church, a member of the Gallatin County Fish and Game Club and was president of the Warsaw Lions Club. He was chairman of the Three Rivers Health Board, chairman of the Warsaw Cemetery Board, and an Army veteran of World War II.

"He was just a tremendous person in our community. He's going to be tremendously missed," said Councilwoman Beatrice Scott, who worked with Mr. Beverly at Farmers State Bank and served with him on the cemetery board.

"He was a great person to work for. He was vibrant, liked to joke around and always had something friendly to say."

Mr. Beverly's daughter, Donna Carroll Hughes, of Lexington, said she will remember her father's whistle and his sense of humor. When his children were kids, he called them from playtime with a whistle.

"You could hear it for miles," Ms. Hughes said.

"He was a jokester. He was always playing pranks on us. He loved April Fool's jokes"

Ms. Hughes described Mr. Beverly as a wonderful father who took pride in his children's accomplishments and who loved his church and his community.

"He he just loved life more than anything," Ms. Hughes said. "He's taught me his spiritual values and love of the community. He was involved in so many things and we just kind of followed in his footsteps."

His son, Dan Thomas Beverly, preceded him in death.

In addition to his daughter, survivors include his wife, Mary Evelyn Beverly of Warsaw; a brother, Carroll Spencer Beverly of Smith Grove; two granddaughters and three step-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Warsaw Christian Church, 207 W. High St., Warsaw, Ky. 41095.
