Doris was born on December 21, 1932, in Hutchinson, KS, the daughter of Travis and Anna Evans Avery. She graduated from Hutchinson High School and attended Hutchinson Community College where she received a degree in Nutrition. Doris retired in 1995 after 25 years as a nutritionist service manager for USD #308. On January 30, 1954, Doris married Lawrence Swenson. He died April 16, 1994. On January 19, 2006, she married Charles R. Cottle. He died on July 17, 2021.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Lawrence and Robert; a son, Edwin L. Swenson; and siblings, Emmett, Marion, and Henry Avery, Myrtle Robinson, Alberta Crabbs and Donna Caldwell.
Doris is survived by her son, Wayne Swenson; two daughters in law, Bonnie Swenson and Randi Swenson-Bichelmeyer; four grandchildren, Todd (Qiera) Swenson, Jill (Adam) Robb, Emily Swenson, and Lindsey (Derrik) Yoder; eight great grandchildren, Sofia and Erik Swenson, Gabriella and Jacob Robb, Lillianna, Alexis, Julianna and Addison Yoder; and two step-grandchildren, Holly Davis Diemer and Joseph E. Davis.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 13, 2022, at First Church of the Nazarene, 4290 N. Monroe St., Hutchinson, KS, with Pastor Dustin Bauerle officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. Burial will take place in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, KS. Memorials may be given to First Church of the Nazarene and sent in care of Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave., Hutchins
