Thomas Creigh was born on April 23, 1717, in Templepatrick, near Carrickurgus, County Antrim, Northern Ireland about 9.2 miles northwest of Belfast. His father was a ruling elder in the Presbyterian church there. He married Jennett McCrerie on September 22, 1740 in Carnmoney, Ireland. His death of January 10, 1791 was recorded in government records in Ireland. His wife, Jennett (McCrerie), Creigh in "Notes and queries: historical, biographical, and genealogical, chiefly relating to interior Pennsylvania, [1st-2d ser., v. 1-2, page 297" … After the death of her husband, Thomas Creigh, she came to America with two unmarried daughters arriving in Carlisle, Pennsylvania on June 10, 1791. There is some question if she and her daughters came in June of 1791. The 1790 census for Carlisle, Pennsylvania last page was completed in March 24, 1791 and Janette was recorded with one daughter. Also one of her daughter she brought with her from Ireland was recorded married in November of 1790 in Carlisle.

Family lore has Thomas killed during the time leading up to the Catholic Rebellion of 1798.
