She was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, registered nurse and licensed social worker who was loved by all who knew her and will be dearly missed.
Tana was a Cadet Nurse in the US Army in WWII and then a hospital nurse. After the war was over, she married Tom H. Fender who had also served in the war, in Okinawa. Tom went to college and medical school on the GI Bill while Tana continued working. After Tom became a doctor, they raised three children. Then, Tana resumed her nursing career with the Red Cross and some "in home" nursing assignments. During this time (at 55) she went back to college (WSU) to earn another degree in Social Work. She graduated Magna Cum Laude. After that, as a caseworker, Tana worked for SRS and Child Protective Services (as an Investigator) for the government. Several years later, she returned to The Red Cross (as a social worker this time), and worked there many more years as a caseworker and then in an administration capacity until she retired in her 70's.
She was preceded in death by her father Bob Bishop, her mother Onie Bishop, and sister Elsie all of Amarillo, TX; long time husband Tom H. Fender MD, and long time friend and partner Richard Noriega, both of Wichita, KS.
Memorial contributions in Tana's memory can be made to The American Red Cross and/or St. Anne Catholic Church.
Memorial Mass will be held 10:00am CDT, Friday, April 29th, 2022, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2801 S. Seneca Street, Wichita, KS.
