Funeral services held at Durant for Mr. Alexander

Funeral services for Melvin Alexander, who died February 22 at Holmes County Hospital, were held at 10:30 on February 4 at Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Durant. The Reverend David Pratt, pastor of the Emory Baptist Church, officiated. Burial was in the Cade Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.

Mr. Alexander, a farmer, was a life-long resident of Carroll County. He was a mason and member of the Emory Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Leona Cox Alexander, of West; one daughter, Mrs. George Turbeville, Jr. of Vaiden; three sons, Lewis Alexander of Durant, Ralph Alexander of Lexington, and Sammy Alexander of West; his mother, Mrs. Grace Alexander of West; three sisters, Mrs. Hazel Fullilove of Vaiden, Mrs. Eula Lee Stevens and Mrs. Brock Craft of West; and two grandchildren.

Active pallbearers were Sonny Hill, Billy Irby, Jimmy Truitt, Harold Melton, Roosevelt Green, and Kenneth Dickerson,

Honorary pallbearers were Andrew Smith, Sharkey Truitt, Estes Hill, Roscoe Johnson, Marion Cade, Jim Bowie, Joseph Alexander, and L. J. Hand.
