Gary E. Drohmann, age 81, of Manitowoc died peacefully on Monday, May 23, 2022, surrounded by his family. He will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, strong work ethic, loyal friendship, engaging personality and deep appreciation for life and love.

Gary was born on October 20, 1940 in Grantsburg to the late Floyd and Emily (Daniel) Drohman. After graduating from Grantsburg High School with the class of 1958, Gary earned his Bachelor of Science degree from UW-River Falls in 1962 and Master of Science degree from UW-Milwaukee in 1968. He moved to Manitowoc to begin his teaching career at Lincoln High School where he met the love of his life, Mary C. Lockwood. They eloped in Seattle, WA and spent 57 years building a life together.

Gary devoted 37 years to teaching physics and math at LHS from 1962 until his retirement in 1999, and he continued to serve as a tutor, mentor and father figure to many others throughout his life.

He was an active hobby farmer and enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood carving, gardening, planting trees and being in nature. A proponent of land stewardship and social justice, Gary volunteered for numerous environmental and humanitarian organizations.

As a dedicated follower of Jesus, he served on multiple mission trips with his church, including Honduras, Bolivia, Mexico, New Orleans and Florida. He was a member of Lakeshore United Methodist Church, Conservation Education Inc., Glacial Lakes Conservancy, Hope House, Wisconsin Education Association, National Education Association, and Wisconsin Science Teachers Association.

The family will greet relatives and friends at Lakeshore United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 11, 2022 from 9 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. The service will be livestreamed at https://www.lakeshoreumc.com/. A luncheon to further celebrate Gary's life will be held at church immediately following the memorial service. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials to Conservation Education Inc., Glacial Lakes Conservancy or Lakeshore UMC Missions.
