Took to Farming
When he had reached the age where he could no longer follow the active and arduous life of a lumberjack, Mr. Marcell turned to farming as a calling. For many years he farmed at Maple Ridge, later at Nation Valley, and finally settled in Matilda township, all in the County of Dundas. Mr. Marsell took an active interest in farm life and the welfare, improvement and management of his holding up to his last days. Mr. Marsell turned aside from his lumbering and farming life long enough to become a soldier at the time of the Fenian raids*, and saw active service at that period in Canada's history. When he was about 30 years of age, Mr. Marsell chose the domestic life, and married Elizabeth Barclay, of Dundas county. From this union there now exist nine children, 55 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren. His wife died about 20 years ago.
Surviving him now are five sons, Simeon, James, Charles, Frederick and William Marsell; and four daughters, Margaret, Martha, Minnie and Lou, besides a host of more distant relatives. Mr. Marsell was a Methodist and a member of Matilda Church. The funeral will be held on Thursday, March 19, at 1pm, from the residence of his, Charles Marsell, second concession Matilda. interment will be made in Maple Ridge cemetery.
