Kathy Mae Toom, a daughter of Robert F. and Lula M. (Easley) Bailey was born on May 14, 1949, at Pella, Iowa. Kathy attended the Pella Public Schools and graduated from Pella High School with the Class of 1967. On April 24, 1970, she and Robert Lee were united in marriage and gave birth to two sons: Brian and Eric. Kathy was an excellent homemaker and mother. Inside the house, she was a master in the kitchen and loved gathering the family together for holiday meals. The family friends always made an effort to stop by later for leftovers. Though when the weather permitted, and sometimes when it didn't, she would be found outside tending to the garden, ponds, and shrub borders. Kathy eventually turned that passion into recognition by attaining the Master Gardener certification. On December 3, 2016, Bob passed away at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 78 years. Kathy then relocated to Altoona, Iowa where she resided until she suffered a stroke in 2020. She then moved to Regency Care Center in Norwalk, Iowa. Kathy passed away while being cared for here on May 20, 2022 at the age of 73 years. Surviving are her two sons: Brian Toom, Eric Toom and his wife, Cathy, and their three children: Leah, Camden and Tanner, twins all of Des Moines, Iowa. Of her original family, she is survived by two siblings, Ronald W. Bailey and wife, Zhanetta, Sandy S. Suplee and husband, David, all of Pella. Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, her brother, Robert Roy Bailey, and her parents, Robert and Lula Bailey.
