The Californian (Salinas, California) - 15 Jul 1897:

"Robert W. Morris, an old and respected citizen of this county, resident for many years in Corral de Tierra, died last Sunday at Sugar Pine in Tuolumne county, whither he had recently gone in company with his son-in-law, Henry Worthington, to engage in mining. The immediate cause of death was paralysis of the bowels. At his bedside were his wife and son John who arrived there on Saturday, just a day before his death. The deceased was a native of Missouri and crossed the plains to California in an ox team in pioneer days. He was an upright man and good citizen, and leaves a widow and large family to mourn his sudden death. He was 63 years 4 months and 19 days of age. The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock this afternoon from the home of Mrs. Dan McElreavy, his daughter, on Capitol street. Interment will be made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery."
