Loren H. Freeman was born December 11, 1940 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was the tenth out of eleven children of Leroy and Ethel Freeman. In 1943 they moved to Shelton, Washington, where Loren grew up helping with duties on the farm where they milked cows and raised chickens for butcher and eggs. In 1951, they moved to Idaho in the Wilder area, and eventually bought a farm in the Riverside Community where he attended grade school. He attended High School across the Snake River in Marsing, Idaho. Loren was very active in High School. He participated in Football, Wrestling, FFA (Future Farmers of America), where he was the President in during the 1957-58 school year, Band where he played the Saxophone, and believe it or not Drama class, where he had role in a play that made the local news paper with schoolmate Fred Hill. It was through his participation in the FFA during the Career Development Events Competitions up in Moscow, Idaho in the spring of 1958, when his good friend Tommy Bershears showed him a picture of the woman who became the love of his life Brenda Nadean Smith. Loren and Brenda married were married on January 1, 1959.
Loren worked for a local farmer as farmhand for couple of years, before he tried his hand at operating his own dairy for a while. In 1966 he and Brenda bought a farm south of Nampa, Idaho. Loren worked in town as steel worker at Pacific Iron and Steel, while farming in the evenings and on the weekends. In 1970, Loren leased some near by farmland and went into farming fulltime. He grew hay, sweet corn seed, beans, wheat, and sugar beets, and always had some cattle. In1973, Loren and Brenda bought their farm out north of Caldwell, on Old Hwy 30, and expanded their farming operation. During the majority of Loren's farming career he drove semi trucks in the winter months hauling agriculture products in Idaho and throughout the northwest.
Loren believed that you should always give back more than you take, and he proved that through his service to his community, and his industry. He was a Lifetime Elk Member at the Caldwell Elks Lodge #1448. He served on the Canyon County Weed and Gopher Control Board for several years. He served on Middleton School board from 1984-1993. He served on the Nyssa-Nampa Sugar Beet Growers Association board from 1989-1997, where he got go Washington D.C. and lobby for the Sugar Industry. In 1997, Loren became a founding board member of the Snake River Sugar Company Cooperative, where he served until 2000. It was through the Sugar Beet Industry that he and Brenda got travel to several different parts of the nation to attend National Sugar Beet Conferences, which created memories and friendships that they have cherished a great deal.
Loren was a true believer in the 4-H and FFA youth programs, and he was an avid supporter. He help Brenda lead a 4-H club for 10 years, he help his children and grandchildren with their 4-H and FFA projects, and attended many county fair auctions over the decades. He helped his son and daughter in-law start the Idaho FFA Foundation Tractor Raffle Scholarship program, which is now in its twelfth year, and has raised approximately $231,200 for scholarships for FFA students throughout the state of Idaho. Loren attributed much of his life long successes to his Agriculture Education courses and his FFA experience's in High School.
Loren absolutely loved to hunt with his sons, packing with horses and mules into the backcountry whenever they had the chance. And fishing, well that was a whole nother story. He and his good friend Blaine Overman would gather up who ever they could and jaunt off to Alaska, to test the waters. They were always successful whether they caught any fish or not, or weather they could find anyone to go with them or not. They didn't care, they were in Alaska fishing and that was a success!
