Widower of Jane (Reeves) Patterson, who later married Sarah (Sanders) Patterson a few years after the death of his first wife. Occupation: Farmer & hotel owner. According to the book, "Rural Reflections of Amwell Township" (Washington County, PA 1976), William was well-known in the area and was born on a farm south of Amity. He was a farmer most of his life until he became a hotel owner in 1883 vis-à-vis his hotel, "Patterson House". He was married twice; his first wife Jane died in 1875 and then he married his second wife, Sarah, shortly thereafter. His parentage is somewhat of a mystery, as only his mother "Nancy Boyd" is listed on his death certificate. Census records do indicate that both his parents were born in Pennsylvania. From what can be deduced of available death, census, and will records, William's mother Nancy (whose maiden name is unknown) appears to have married an unnamed Patterson male who sired William, and it seems likely he left her a widow at a young age. After this, she married Robert P. Boyd sometime prior to 1840. Research is ongoing and definitive links are hoped to be established - please do not hesitate to suggest a correction to the bio if you have add'l information and would like to collaborate. Many thanks are due to David @ Cornerstone Genealogical Society for all of his excellent help in tracking down some of this info.
