Ruth de Rosier, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Woman Extraordinaire 97 years young, died in St. Paul on April 18. She was born Jan. 31, 1915, in St. Paul, to Agnes Anastasia Horan and John Vincent Kelly, M.D. A graduate of Derham Hall in 1932, she attended the College of Saint Catherine, and earned a bachelor's degree from Metropolitan State University in 1977. She married Cyril Eugene de Rosier in 1941, who preceded her in death in 1953. Ruth was preceded in death by her siblings, James, Lt. Col. Jack Kelly, Patricia Daugherty and Mary Budge. She is survived by her children, John (Mary Jean), Randy Mary, Eugénie, Ruth Antoinette (Jerome Hertel), Kelly Ann (Eric Bentley), and Yi Pheach (Vuthy Pril). She is survived by her siblings, Agnes Kelly Jensen and Edward H., M.D. (Rose Ann). Also survived by 16 grandchildren, in whom she delighted: Matt (Pam) de Rosier and Tom (Nina) de Rosier; Rachel Petschel, Erin Petschel, Alicia (Jason) Jacobs; Jennifer (Eric) Edwards, Ryan, Juliana and Antoinette Hertel, and Jessica (Keith) Carroll; Austin Bentley (Heather Austin), Alexandra, Kathleen and Christopher and Bentley, Sidney and Mitchell Pril, and 10 great-grandchildren: Sarah (Tyler Dietz), Laura and Jacob de Rosier; Aiden, Cole, Cooper and Rory Jacobs; Alexander and Gabrielle Edwards, Dante de Rosier; and other relatives and friends. A committed volunteer, Ruth was involved with the House of the Good Shepard Auxiliary and served as its first vice president. Hospitality was her mantra. She housed a foreign student for a year, taught ESL to immigrants through the Minnesota Literacy Council, was associated with Catholic Charities Unaccompanied Minors' Program, and labored for years with the American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, Groveland Elementary School and the Guild of Catholic Women. She was a nominee for the McKnight Human Service Award, was at the forefront of adult women returning to the classroom in the 1950s and earned her bachelor's degree at 62. A lifelong learner, she was a knowledgeable historian and geographer, an enthusiastic world-traveler and well-verse in the humanities. She taught at St. Luke's Elementary School and worked at Ramsey County's probate court. Ruth was an independent thinker and maintained a lifelong appreciation of the arts. Her greatest triumph was raising and educating her children well. Mom, we'll miss you. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on April 23 at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. Internment Resurrection Cemetery.
