Elizabeth "Betsy" (Casterline) Vernon was the daughter of Loammi Casterline and Elizabeth Charolotta Fairchild. One of her many siblings is Ira Casterline, who is buried at the Miles Cemetery in Hartford City, Indiana. Her father, Loammi, died in New York and is buried there, while her mother, Elizabeth, moved to Hartford City, Indiana with her children and later died there in 1842 and is also buried at the Hartford City Cemetery in Blackford County Indiana. Betsy's baptism was Jan. 3, 1813, at the First Presbyterian Church, Morristown, Morris, New Jersey.
Elizabeth "Betsy" Casterline was the first wife of Richard Vernon Jr. He was born on Jan. 28, 1798, in Orange County, New York and would later die on Aug. 4, 1870, in Rush County Indiana. He and Elizabeth were married on Dec. 2, 1819, in Wantage, Sussex, New Jersey according to the marriage documents by Rev. Thomas Teasdale.
His first wife Elizabeth died very young at the age of 32. It's believed she died in childbirth as was common in their time. Richard would later remarry to Lodicea (Dicey) Sparks on Oct. 4, 1835, in Fayette, Boone, Indiana. Richard is the son of Richard Vernon Sr. and Elizabeth Wills. Richard is buried with his second wife Lodicea at the Zion Cemetery in Raleigh, Rush County, Indiana.
Richard Jr. and Elizabeth had 7 children:
