Alice Marie (Longhenry) Westrum, 88, of Boone, Iowa, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2022 at the Westhaven Community in Boone. She was born on November 6, 1933, in Boone, Iowa to Arthur and Elsia (Murken) Longhenry. She was baptized on December 3, 1935. She graduated from Stratford High School on May 16, 1952, and on May 17, 1952 she married Lyle Westrum at St. Paul's Lutheran Parish in Webster City, Iowa.
Over the years, Alice enjoyed being a homemaker and working alongside Lyle on their farm in rural Boone County. Her love of cooking led her to numerous years of cooking at Hidden Acres Camp and for Trinity Lutheran School's lunch program. She was best known for her pepperoni roll-ups, cinnamon rolls, pies, and desserts. She was the author of her own cookbooks: Great Tastes, More Great Tastes, and Great Tastes of Quantities. She had many gardens and fruit trees and enjoyed canning and freezing their produce. Her hobbies included quilting, crocheting, and baking. Alice was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle Westrum; parents Arthur and Elsie Longhenry; brother Kenneth Longhenry; three sisters: Eileen Horn, Delores Kastler, and Marilyn McKee; brother-in-law John "Jack" Horn; two nieces: Cheryl Longhenry and Karla Keenan; and one nephew, Allen Longhenry.
Survivors include her daughter, Robyn (Mark) Weigel of Ames, IA; son, Robert Westrum and his fiancé Lisa Melchert of Ogden, IA; six grandchildren: Lindsey (Josh) Fausch, Tyler Hoshaw, Jason Weigel, Curtis (Christa) Weigel, Nathan Westrum, and Emily Westrum; daughter-in-law Jan Westrum; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers: Melvin (Donna) Longhenry, and Curtis (Sherry) Longhenry; sister-in-law Lillie Longhenry, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 13, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone, Iowa, with Rev. Jessten Heimer officiating. Interment will be at South Marion Cemetery southeast of Stratford, Iowa.
Friends may call Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Boone on Thursday, May 12, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday morning at Trinity Lutheran Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
