Lyle Stanton Westrum, 80, of Boone, Iowa, passed away at his home on Sunday morning, June 2, 2013.

He was born on June 10, 1932, in rural Stratford, Iowa the son of Martin and Mabel (Angstrom) Westrum.

On May 17, 1952, he married Alice Longhenry at St. Paul's Lutheran Parish in Webster City, Iowa.

Lyle graduated from Stratford High School in 1950. He farmed north of Boone, drove for the Railroad Taxi Service, delivered the Boone County Shopper for many years, and helped Alice cook lunch for the Trinity Lutheran School.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Boone Lion's Club. Lyle was the author of "A Farmer Remembers" short stories, enjoyed rock collecting, keeping record of interesting articles and farming pictures, attending household auctions, golfing with his high school friends, attending his grandchildren's activities and visiting with anyone he met.

His parents; 2 brothers Gayle Westrum and Eugene Westrum; 1 sister Marilyn Palmer; 2 sisters-in-law Dorothy Westrum and Betty Westrum; and 1 nephew Derek Palmer preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife Alice of Boone; 1 daughter Robyn Weigel and husband Mark of Ames, Iowa; 1 son Robert Westrum and wife Jan of Boone; 6 grandchildren Jason Weigel of Chicago, Illinois, Lindsey Fausch and husband Josh of Ankeny, Iowa, Curtis Weigel of St. Louis, Missouri, Tyler Hoshaw and wife Paige of Forest City, Iowa, Nathan Westrum and Emily Westrum both of Boone; great-grandchildren Jackson and baby boy Fausch both of Ankeny, Iowa and Ryah Hoshaw of Forest City, Iowa; 1 brother Gerald Westrum of Stratford, Iowa; 1 sister Marietta Grabau and husband Ted of Grand Island, Nebraska; 1 sister-in-law Arlys Westrum of Stratford, Iowa; 1 brother-in-law Richard Palmer of Ottumwa, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Thursday morning, June 6th at 10:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone with Pastor Lindsay Watkins officiating.

Interment will be in the South Marion Cemetery southeast of Stratford, Iowa.

Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Wednesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. to greet friends. Visitations will continue at the Church on Thursday morning from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials gifts may be directed to the family for a memorial to be determined at a later date.
