Obituary for LaVor Brown

LOA--Charles LaVor Brown, 89, died Oct 13, 1995, in Richfield of natural causes. He was born Jan. 9, 1906, Loa, a son of Fredrick ElRoy and Phoebe Bastian Brown. He married our mother, May Taylor, on April 2, 1928, in Loa. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple Aug. 11, 1976. Mom died Dec. 4, 1982. Dad was a pioneer with the ability and desire to try new things. He was a farmer and cattleman, based in both Loa and Hanksville.He had a special love for camping with his entire family on the deer hunt and Easter. He was instrumental in bringing the Utah Poultry to Loa, built the restaurant and Laundromat in Loa and bought the first backhoe in the valley. He started the construction company that is currently known as Brown Brothers Construction. He and Mom worked very hard to take care of their family and many friends who were welcomed and fed at their homes. He is survived by four daughters and one son and spouses: Owana and Wade Grundy, Arlen and Lorna Brown, daughter-in-law Nadine Brown, all Loa; Myrna and Richard Larsen, Bicknell; Erma and Royce Allen, Bennion; Lois Parsons, Richfield; brothers and sisters, Antone Brown and Marjorie Mott, both Loa; Donna Lindsay, Provo; 26 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandshildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, May; two sons, Dale and Earl; one brother, Alonzo. The family wishes to express thanks to those people at the Richfield Care Center who gave such good care and love to LaVor. Funeral service were Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 1 p.m. in the Loa LDS Stake Center with Pres. Scott Durfey, presiding and Loa LDS Ward Bishop Robert Brian, officiating, Albert Brown (grandson) offered the family prayer; Lorna C. Brown (daughter-in-law) played prelude and postlude music and Charles Wade Grundy (grandson) offered the invocation. Nadine R. Brown (daughter-in-law)offered a tribute and speaker was L. Royce Allen (son-in-law) with remarks by Bishop Robert Brian. Music included vocal solo by Monica Childers (granddaughter) "Grandpa, Tell Me 'Bout The Good Ol'Days;" vocal solo, Dennis Ekker, "Wind Beneath My Wings," accompanied by Spencer Baker, and selection by Connie Torgerson, Anna Lou Hutchings, and Carolyn Moosman, medley of songs, accompanied by Kaye Durfey. Joe Earl Brown (grandson) offered the benediction. Interment was in the Loa Cemetery by Springer Turner Funeral Home, Richfield and Salina, where Michael A. Brown (grandson) offered the dedicatory prayer. Pallbearers (grandsons) were Scott Grundy, Ellis Brown, Jeffrey B. Allen, Gary Allen, Gordon Brown, Greg Larsen, Leon Brown and Roger Jones. Honorary pallbearers (grandsons) were Clive Grundy, Douglas Grundy, Steven Grundy and Duane Jensen
