Balis Gene Dailey Shoultz, of Grapeland, Texas, passed from this life to the next, on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, with her daughters and loved ones at her side. Gene, 94 yrs old, passed at Brookdale of Palestine where she had resided for the past 10 years. She was born October 12, 1927 at her family homestead in the Dailey Community near Grapeland, Texas, to her parents, Balis Edens Dailey and Bulah Pool Dailey.

She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. A graduate of Baylor University, she was a former elementary school teacher, and a member of Grapeland First United Methodist Church. She served at churches in East Texas, Houston, and the Gulf Coast alongside her husband, Jack Wright Shoultz, a United Methodist minister, during their 62 years of marriage. She was a member of the Grapeland Garden Club, the Bookmark Club, United Methodist Women, and served on the board at First Christian Church Memorial, the Grapeland Public Library and the Dailey Community Cemetery.

She and Jack traveled to Europe, Africa, and the Holy Lands, and enjoyed visiting with friends, family, congregation members and their ministerial friends.

Gene was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Wright Shoultz, her parents, Balis and Bulah Dailey, her sisters, Iva Helen Dailey and Jo Ann Dailey.

She is survived by her daughters, Sue Anne Kuhns and husband, Bill of Irvine, California, Jo Ellen Small and husband, Jeffrey of Grapeland, Texas, granddaughter, Jacqueline Kuhns Culliver of Orefield, Pennsylvania, grandson, Joseph Edens Kuhns, of Irvine, California, and great grandchildren, Jenna, Jaxton, and Jourdin Culliver.

Friends are invited to attend her services at First United Methodist Church, Grapeland, Texas, Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 1 PM. Her interment will follow at Dailey Community Cemetery, FM 227 West, Grapeland. Her funeral services are being handled by Walker and Walker Funeral Home of Grapeland, Texas.
