Bettyanne Diamond Taft, of Continental, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022. She was born April 19 1925 in Lima, daughter of Clayton and Gayle (Green) Emerick. She married Emery Diamond on February 12, 1949, he passed away in 1989.
A graduate of Continental High School. During the war, she worked at a war plant in the purchasing department. After the war ended she worked at Philips, known then as Sylvania. While there she had IBM Computer training and was in charge of the processing of payroll checks for the plant. Taking time out for starting a family, nine years later she was sworn in as the County's first female Deputy Sheriff at the Putnam County Sheriff's Department. She completed Ohio Peace Officers Training, became the first female Court Bailiff and retired after 21 years. In 1993 she married Lt. Colonel Leonard Taft, he passed away in 2006.
Through the years she served on the advisory board of Putnam County, Putnam County Human Services Board, Member of the Buckeye State Sheriff's Association, served as Putnam County Draft Registrar during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. She was a Charter member of the Continental Garden Club, Brownie's and Girl Scout Advisor, a member of the L & S Club and Sharon Grange Drill Team, attended Kieferville United Methodist Church until it closed, and currently attending Christ United Methodist Church of Continental.
Surviving are a son, Kim (Diane) Diamond; a grandson, Trent (Andrea) Diamond, all of Continental; a granddaughter, Mallory (Clark) Carroll of Wauseon; four great-grandchildren, Olivia and Hannah Diamond, Ellie and Case Carroll; nieces; nephews; cousins; brothers and sisters-in-law, who were all very special to her; and a very special friend and companion , Richard Harris.
Betty was always grateful for a loving and caring family and was ultra-proud of her two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Olivia, Ellie, Hannah and Case.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Christ United Methodist Church, Continental with Reverend Charles Schmunk officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
