Poughkeepsie, New York – Ayda Abbassi of Poughkeepsie, NY was granted eternal rest by our Lord on April 25th, 2022.
The daughter of the late Raji and Fawzieh Jweinat, Ayda was born in Jordan on January 12th, 1957 and came to America to start a new life in 1977. Ayda was a loving wife to her husband, Salem, and a caring mom to her two sons, Jamil and Jonathan. With 10 siblings, she was a sister and aunt to many whom she loved very dearly and was at her happiest when surrounded by her brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
Ayda was a devout Christian who believed deeply in the love and healing powers of our God through his Son, Jesus Christ from whom all blessings flow. She was repeatedly healed through the intercessions of our Lord often astonishing her doctors. She fought long enough to fulfill her one wish of becoming a grandmother and adored her granddaughter, Amelia.
She is survived by her husband Salem, her sons Jamil and Jonathan, her granddaughter Amelia, her brother Adnan, and her sisters Awatef, Afaf, Abeer, and Oraib.
All are invited to attend services at St. James Orthodox Church at 441 Violet Ave, in Poughkeepsie, NY. The funeral will be held the on April 30th, 2022, starting at 10am. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery Poughkeepsie, New York. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave Poughkeepsie, New York 12603.
