MAN KILLS WIFE AND SELF.
Kentuckian Made Desperate by Divorce Suit Enacts Tragedy.
London, Ky, June 26.-Driven to desperation by the fact that three months ago his wife filed suit for divorce, Sherman Collier, one of the most prominent men in the county, this morning shot and killed his wife, then with the same weapon sent a bullet through his own brain, falling lifeless across her body. The double tragedy was witnessed by Earl, the 5-year-old son of Mrs. Collier. The killing occurred at the home of Abraham Carmack, the step-father of the murdered woman, and with whom she had been living for several months. Collier is a brother of County Attorney D. G. Collier, of Jackson county. For many months the relations between Mr. and Mrs. Collier had been more or less strained. Both had been married before, and each had two children. These were the subject of the dispute and, in addition, Collier was insanely jealous. Three months ago Mrs. Collier filed suit for divorce, alleging cruelty, and threats to kill, Collier called several times to see the woman, and made most energetic efforts to effect a reconciliation, begging her to live with him again, which she refused to do and Collier came here last night and remained with his father. This morning early, he went to the home of Mr. Carmack, three miles south of here, and asked to see his wife. He said that he was going to Hamilton, Ohio, and wanted to bid her good-bye, Mrs. Collier came into the parlor with her son, when the husband shot her down, and then killed himself.
