OBITUARY "The Chelsea Reporter" & "The Claremore Progress" --
Elsie Rumley Hardin, Chelsea area resident for 72 years, died early Thursday, June 1, 1989, at the Claremore Regional Hospital. Final rites will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Chelsea First Christian Church, where she was a member. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, under direction of Musgrove-Meriott-Smith Funeral Service.
She was born Jan. 14, 1901, at Rumley, Searcy County, Ark., the daughter of Henry N. and Sarah M. Geary Rumley. She married Rev. Harvey Hardin March [April] 25, 1915, at her father's home in Rumley. She had lived in the Chelsea area since 1917.
Mrs. Hardin was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, serving as president of the First District at one time; the Business and Professional Women's Club; White Home Demonstration Club, which she also served as president; and the Order of the Eastern Star, Nowata Chapter, where she was a past worthy matron.
Her husband died Dec. 27, 1986. She is survived by her sons, Esmond Hardin of Dallas, Texas, and Sylvester Hardin of Belleville, Ill.; daughter Pauline Madeira, of Afton; sister, Dovie Holland, of Millstadt, Ill,; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
